PORTIA WHITE :

Portia white I believe was born to be a singer because the age she started singin was incredible and how her talent spread internationally is impressive.Portia was born in Trurro,Nova Scotia,she started singing at the age of six! she sang at her fathers church choir since she was a part of it .People were amazed at how well she could sing.When Portia was seventeen she won a Silver Cup at the music festival .Portia was doing extremely well in her career that she started being recognized everywhere.

She made her international debut in New York City. After ward she started touring the world and preforming her talent .As Portia grew up the province of Nova Scotia's trust, provided Portia with financial assistance in-order for her to get the best vocal training possible .She then Preformed for Queen Elizabeth II at the opening of "Confederation Centre for the Arts" ,this was in Charlottetown in year 1964. That concert was apparently one of her last major performances . Portia white was such and talented and yet amazing African-Canadian and that's why I decided to to my assignment on her.I never heard about her in my life and when i started reading about her she sounded very intersting.

ASSIGNMENT #5

TOO COLD FOR 1800's? :

It seems that the early settlers must have had a pretty rough time with winter when they first migrated to Canada .Altho they had a lot of firewood to keep warm, they must have a lot of trouble hunting especially since many animals hibernate during the winter .The early settlers would have had to go fishing for food, and in order for them to do that they would have to go to the water and dig very deep to be able to get to the water and then wait for the fish to bite and it would be very cold, I'm talking -43 degrees .The life for them must have been pretty painful because they would have to do everything them self from growing crops in the winter which is almost impossible to do to keeping a farm healthy .


WHY AM I HERE FREEZING ?:

My family and I were not planning on coming to Canada to enjoy the painful winter but here because of my dad's study.My father was coming to Canada because he got a scholarship for him to get his P.hD at Carleton university.We came in 1999 and he got his P.hD in 2007,clearly it took a while but he was teaching courses in between as he still does now.The weather is very different form where I come from , Libya. Libya is located in North Africa and has very warm weather and has had the world record for hottest temperature with a temperature of 58 degrees Celsius.I grew up here so i got used to the weather, my dad lived in England so he was familiar but my mom wasn't so happy but after a while got used to it.Now we know what to expect everyyear but the col still doesn't seemt o put a smily on our faces.

ONE HUNDRED YEARS FROM 2009 :

This assignment seems pretty interesting because we have to read Christopher Moore's blog post and respond .We also have to post a blog on what we think will happen to the world however more specifically on Canada one hundred years from now.Canada has made a lot of process in the past 500 years, we also had some pretty rough times for economy,politics,war,population etc.. .In 2109 I believe that Canada will still be one of the greatest country's in the world as it already is now, however we will have many enviromently related issues concerning such as global warming .We will have many great new inventions not only 'flying cars' as Mrs.Pollock mentioned but things to make the world a better place to live.I believe that there a very new look to the world. The youuth of the future, from my opinion will be very carelessover most thing in general such as; behaviour,attitude and living style.Canada will have many international issues with other countrys over economic crises as it is a disaster now .What we do now will affect what will happen later, if we dont fix this economy crises it wil just get worse and worse .These are some of the things that I think of the future.
